boot to support your leg while it heals.\n\nWhile your leg is immobilised, the blood in your veins may not flow as well as usual.\n\nThis can increase the risk of developing a blood clot.\n\nBlood clots that form in the veins are known as venous thromboembolism, or VTE.\n\nA blood clot can cause swelling and pain in the leg.\n\nIn some cases, a clot can travel to the lungs.\n\nThis is called a pulmonary embolism and can be life-threatening.\n\nDoctors sometimes prescribe blood-thinning medicines to reduce the risk of clots forming.\n\nHowever, these medicines can also increase the risk of
