Washed Out

Washed Out is Ernest Greene, a young guy from Georgia (via South Carolina) who makes bedroom synthpop

Morph were approached by Daniel Brereton to collaborate on a music video for the Washed Out Visual Album – Mister Mellow.

Daniel has a very distinct style of artwork and it was important to keep his hand drawn sketchy look intact. The animation motion was created frame by frame using Adobe Animate, before being rotoscoped using Photoshop to make each frame look like a standalone hand drawn image. The final images were pieced together in After Effects, where we opted for a low frame rate to help give a ‘rough drawing’ feel. This also ensured that the work load was manageable for a tight turnaround.

The final animation is now part of a larger music video series on the Washed Out website. Every artist animated their video in a different style, giving the final piece a varied experimental feel.
